Collation of Geospatial Data

In accordance with the Project Administration Handbook (PAH) for Civil Engineering Works, the Operational Instruction of Architectural Services Department, and the PAH of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Works Departments or their consultants/contractors are required to submit Geospatial Data produced from works projects to the Lands Department (LandsD) for its map updating work.

What is Geospatial Data

Geospatial data from works project ("Geospatial Data") means the following four classes of data originated from both approved project design and as-built survey upon phased completion of works projects:-

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) data in format meeting 1:1000 Basic Mapping Specifications promulgated by LandsD;
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM) model;
  • Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Drawing; and
  • Georeferenced photo image and point cloud data collected from Vehicle Mobile Mapping System and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), etc., and model so derived.

Submission Requirements

Requirements of submitting Geospatial Data with different works project estimates are as below:-

Data to be submitted Works Project Estimates GIS data meeting LandsD 1:1000 Basic Mapping Specifications BIM model CAD Drawing Georeferenced photo image, point cloud and derived model
above $30 million not applicable
(if available)
not more than $30 million not applicable
( submit either BIM model
or drawing in CAD format )

(if available)

Geospatial Data Standards and Submission Channels

The Geospatial Data should be in compliance with the following standards and should be submitted through the corresponding channels:-

Type of Data Submission Method Data Specification / Guideline / Other reference
GIS Data Via Cloud-based Production Mapping Platform (CPMP) (guideline)
  1. 1:1000 Basic Mapping Specifications
BIM Model Via Government BIM Data Repository (GBDR) (guideline)
  1. DEVB TC(W) No. 8/2021
  2. DEVB BIM Harmonisation Guidelines for Works Departments
CAD Drawing Data less than 4GB:
Via Geospatial Data Submission Platform (GDSP) (guideline)

Data larger than 4GB:
Please contact submitgeospatialdata@landsd.gov.hk
  1. DEVB CAD Standard for Works Projects (CSWP)
  2. CEDD Drafting Specifications for Engineering Survey
Others (e.g. photo, image, point cloud, derived model, etc.) (For Reference Only)
  1. [e.g.] Specifications of Photo Images taken by UAV
  2. [e.g.] Specifications of Mobile Mapping System Data

When to Submit Geospatial Data

Geospatial Data originated from both approved design and as-built surveys should be submitted to LandsD according to the following timeline –

Geospatial Data Submission timeline
Geospatial Data originated from approved design Before commencement of construction works of each works contract under a project
Geospatial Data originated from as-built surveys Upon completion of construction works of each works contract# under a project or not later than the corresponding infrastructure / area is open for use whichever is earlier

# If the works are carried out in different sections, Geospatial Data should be submitted upon each sectional completion.
