This year's edition features the new town development in the northern part of Hong Kong which will be developed into a metropolitan area. Three new towns, namely Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long and Fanling/Sheung Shui are located within this area. The storytelling Map showcases the topographic, demographic and developmental changes of these new towns over the past decades, as well as the future development of their surrounding areas through the new interactive storytelling map.

Besides, the "e-HongKongGuide" provides 119 detailed maps of Hong Kong in A3/A4 sizes, gazetteers of street and place names, and indexes of estates and buildings. These maps cover the whole territory of Hong Kong, with those for urban areas and other built-up areas in a larger scale.

The maps, in GeoPDF format, can be read on desktop computers and applications on mobile devices in offline mode. Users can easily locate their positions on the "e-HongKongGuide" maps using free map applications with satellite positioning functions. Button links are provided on the maps and indexes for easy browsing on desktop computers. Maps in A3/A4 sizes can also be printed out.

The new "e-HongKongGuide" is available for browsing and free download at the LandsD's website.

This is a series of footpath maps comprising five sheets. They are titled as Hong Kong Island & Neighbouring Islands, Lantau Island & Neighbouring Islands, North West New Territories, North East & Central NT and Sai Kung & Clear Water Bay. They are designed to assist hikers and nature lovers in exploring the rural countryside, especially the country park areas. They are printed in colour on both sides and folded.

Thematic Maps (Series: AR)

A series of end paper maps of the Hong Kong Annual Reports on various topics such as geology, population, climate, reclamation and development, communications and trade, etc. are available in loose sheet form and in separate Chinese and English versions. Each sheet measures 235 by 343 mm.

SMO has undertaken to produce for the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) the HGM20 series comprising 15 sheets at scale 1:20 000. They depict solid and superficial geology of the territory. Another 1:20 000 series, HGM20S, on solid geology is currently under preparation with Sheet 2 completed. GEO has also produced a geological map sheet series HGM100 covering the whole territory at scale 1:100 000 with both English and Chinese version in addition to three sets of geological survey plans of series HGP5, HGP5A and HGP5B showing solid and superficial geology in Yuen Long, San Tin Areas, Chek Lap Kok, etc. They are also obtainable from this office.

Hong Kong Helicopter Flying Chart (HM50HFC) and Hong Kong Local Flying Chart (HM100LFC) are the first flying charts prepared and sold by SMO. The former is prepared at scale 1:50 000 in two sheets and the latter at scale 1:100 000 in one single sheet. They show the flight areas within the Hong Kong SAR. Aeronautical information is overprinted in red and blue on topographic maps. The overprint elevation is shown in feet. These charts are only available in English version.

Two wall maps are produced by SMO. One is series HM50CL/J, a topographic map at scale 1:50 000 which covers the whole territory. The other wall map is a false colour infrared aerial photo mosaic of the whole territory. It is produced from 111 false colour infrared aerial photographs taken in 2002 with rectification. The scale is approximately 1: 60 000 and is available in laminated copy or mounted copy with frame.

The Orthophoto Map (Series: OPM50 and OPM100), which is derived from the True Digital Orthophoto (TDOP) Series, is a paper-based orthophoto showing the whole territory of Hong Kong. The OPM50 is at a scale of 1:50 000 with addition of place names, while the OPM100 is the plain version at a scale of 1:100 000. Digital photogrammetric technology is employed in data processing, ortho-rectification and mosaicking.

The Pan-Pearl River Delta Satellite Image Map

The Pan-Pearl River Delta Satellite Image Map Series is prepared using Landsat 8 satellite imagery captured between September 2013 and February 2016.

The Pan-Pearl River Delta Region covers nine provinces / regions (Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan) and the Hong Kong and Macao SARs. Names of provinces, prefectures, SARs, mountains/ plateaus/ basins, seas/ gulfs/ straits, islands, rivers / lakes are placed on top of the satellite imagery.

The Hong Kong and Guangdong Province Satellite Image Map Series is prepared by joining 37 Landsat 8 satellite images captured in November 2017 - March 2019. The map shows the name and location of provinces, prefectures, mountains, islands, sea/ bays, rivers/ reservoirs and airports within the region.


The Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta Satellite Image Map Series is prepared by joining six Landsat 8 satellite images captured in September 2016 - February 2018 for PRDM250S and in October-December 2013 for PRDM500S. The map shows the name and location of administrative centres and settlements within the region.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Survey and Mapping Office (SMO) of the Lands Department (LandsD) has published a new edition of aerial photo collection, Flashbacks of Two Decades in Hong Kong, to showcase major changes of the city over the last two decades through a display of the aerial photos taken by the LandsD at different times.

Taking of aerial photos is one of the key functions of the Survey and Mapping Office of the Lands Department, and has become regular since 1968. By clearly capturing the images of buildings and geographical features at different times, the aerial photos recorded the societal changes of the city for the public. The 'Hong Kong Now and Then – A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos' is a newly compiled photo book collecting recent and old photos that illustrate the changes of Hong Kong in the past decades.
